I have 2 of them! They’re brother and sister named Donald & Daisy. If the original owner knew that they were from Cuba, she would have named them Lucy and Ricky! :P
We love them. They’re very smart dogs and extremely lovable. What else do you want to know?

I have a 2 1/2 year old Havanese. He is the love of my life-so much fun, easy to train, and with a puppy cut, easy to care for. Like any dog, he needs consistency, and a few walks every day. He is friendly to everyone, and goes to 2 senior day care groups for disabled adults every month, and loves it, and they love him! When he was small, I made sure he was well socialized, and in lots of different situations, so he is not afraid of walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, etc, although he is not too sure about skateboards! I also took him to puppy school so he could get the fundamentals of training, and I carry it through so he doesn’t forget. Honestly, Havanese are so smart that they enjoy training. he also enjoys activity, and sometimes we go to a dog park or agility field. But do be careful of any small dog at the dog park, because the bigger dogs may play too rough with your little dog, and he could be hurt. Also be careful of an electric fence with a small dog-it cannot keep bigger dogs or predators (we have coyotes in the neighborhood) out of your yard.
In this part of the country, pure bred Havanese are pretty expensive, but I notice there are some rescues available. Do be careful of pet store or puppy mill dogs. I saved up for my puppy, and it was well worth it.
Good luck with any dog you get. I waited through 35 years of marriage. Now my husband loves my dog every bit as much as I do.
Oh-and my husband, who is allergic to dogs, does fine with our Havanese!
