There are 6 different Bichon breeds:
Bichon Tenerife, the Bichon Bolognese, the Bichon Havanese, the Maltese, the Lowchen, and the Coton de Tulear.
“Bichon” just means bearded and all these breeds have a “beard” to some extent.
Bichon Havanese comes from Havana, The name Bichon Frise refers to the curly coat typical of that breed. They are very different in looks.
Why do people assume that, just because they haven’t heard of a breed, it must be a mutt?http://puppydogweb.com/caninebreeds/hava…http://www.dogpage.us/dog-breeds/images/…
One is a mutt and the other is a recognized breed. Unless you are just asking about the Havanese ( and not a Havanese/Bichon mix)?http://www.akc.org/breeds/havanese/http://www.akc.org/breeds/bichon_frise/i…
If people copy/paste an answer they ought to cite the source and not plagiarize….
Because, Anwen… 9 times out of 10 they ARE. But I am glad to learn something new… Never knew there were classifications of Bichons.
LOL they are different breeds that’s what’s different
fur type, and probably where they originated.
he Bichon, as he’s affectionately called, is related to several small breeds: the Coton de Tulear, a dog who originated off the African coast on an island near Madagascar; the Bolognese, bred in northern Italy near the city of Bologna; the Havanese, from Cuba; and the Maltese, developed on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Bichons also appear to have originated in the Mediterranean and to have been taken along on trade routes into other countries.
