What Small Breed Of Dog Do You Suggest?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I want a dog but i do not want one that will bark at everything that moves. I was leaning towards a Havanese, Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Bichon Frise, or something along those lines…or do you have any tips on training dogs to not bark that much unless necessary?

a mixed breed you get a healthier dog.
shih tzus are very good dogs.
They bark at things that look dangerous such as a passing person sometimes and sometimes my dog barks at the turtle, but otherwise they are very good easy to train intelligent dogs that are very hardy for their small stature. They’re also very cute and eyes are sure to follow you wherever you go with this breed of dog. They are actually great guard dogs but very gentle and patient. They love to be snuggled with and learn things very quickly. This breed is really great but i recommend a mixed shih tzu cuz i have one and hes great!!
tips on training dogs not to bark that much:
Teach the dog to speak on command. This worked with my very vocal sheltie and he only barks when commanded. To do so:
Whenever your dog barks say “speak!” then say good boy/girl and pet him/her.
Or just get a citronella spray collar. it’s humane and safer than the shock collar technique. when the throat vibrates and the dog barks, it sprays stinky citronella right up to the dog’s nose and the dog learns “barking=stinky gross stuff that i don’t like”
=)
any dog can do anything =)
Well I would go with a Yorkshire Terrier. They are really cute and loving dogs. It is also a good thing to keep in mind that not all dogs bark at everything. Since people want their dogs to be happy they tend to spoil them. If you don’t want them to bark simply put some water in a cup and hold it in front of him. Just wait until the dog barks again. Then throw the water in his face while saying “quiet” calmly. Do that and then it won’t bark as much, and maybe stop barking.
I’d reccomend a jack russell – they’re very smart, and very affectionate.
to keep the dog from barking, this works great – put some coins in an empty soda can and tape the lid shut with packing tape. then when ever the dog starts to bark shake the can. the sound will totally startle the dog and stop them from barking.. it takes some persistance but it does work.
Two words…Yorkshire Terrier!!!!!!
I have had several before and I currently have one now and so far each and everyone of them have proven to be wonderful, beautiful dogs!!!
every time it bark u can just say no loudly
u should get an American cocker spaniel there great and never bark and there sooooooooooooo cute even when if there older.

No Yorkie and no Pomeranian. The Yorkie no because they have terrier in them and are know to be yappers. The Pomeranian definitely no because they are major yapppers.
Sam, I like the look of a havanese. They are so cute.
