Do All Dogs Have That “doggie” Smell? Thinking Of Getting A Shitzhu Or A Havanese. Do They Have A Big Smell?

All dogs pretty much smell the same especially if they get wet (personally, I love that smell) but you have to bathe them often if you don’t like it. Some dogs can’t be bathed too often because then you get skin problems.

I Was Told That A Dilute Chocolate Havanese Could Be Infertile, Is This True?

I’ve never heard of chocolate dilution (b/b) being linked to infertility in any breed. Although, dilutes are undesirable in some breeds, because the genes affect pigment too and are sometimes associated with alopecia. Well, at least, blue dilution (d/d) is connected to the skin/coat issues. The closest thing I can think of related to infertility is the merle gene, which causes dilution in random areas. When homozygous it results in hearing, vision and possibly infertility problems. However, the merle gene has nothing to do with chocolate dilution. I would get more information from Havanese breeders. Breed standards, genetics and breeding are not a typical veterinarian’s specialty.

Who Is Better For A Person That Have Allergies Pug Or Havanese?

You’ll probably have the same experience with either dog…while no dog is hypoallergenic, there are breeds that many people feel they do better around, like poodles.
The best thing to do for allergies is to have the desensitizing shots & keep your home VERY clean, eliminate things in the home that can collect allergens (carpet, draperies, etc)…limit as much upholstery as possible. Wash all bedding, yours and your pets weekly in HOT water, and wash your pet with a pet shampoo formulated for people with allergies (like Allergroom) and use a humectant spray often (like Humilac). Keep the dog out of your bedroom, and definitely off your bed. These things can make living with a dog possible even for people with allergies. I am allergic to cats and dogs, and have 4 dogs and 1 cat…these things really help deal with the allergies!
