How Do I Stop My Dog’s Fur Matting And Tangling? He’s A Havanese With Beautiful Silky Fur Which Mats Easily.

I have tried putting him in different coats to protect his own coat from water and mud and grass, but they actually cause as much matting as the elements do. Also collars mat and tangle his hair. Does anybody else have this problem with their Havanese? I’ve been told that their adult coat is easier to groom, but it takes 2 of us about half an hour a day (one to hold, one to brush) and he hates it, and he still gets mats of tangled fur around his neck where the collar goes. Is it just something we have to live with? I never bathe him before brushing him, but he loves to go for long walks in the forest, where he gets muddy and wet in our English weather. If anyone knows how to keep these wonderful dogs mat-free, I’d love to hear from you, and Darby will be eternally grateful too!

How Can I Train My Dog To Stop Eating Cat Food?

Ok, so here’s the deal. My puppy is a havanese, 8 months old, and I just recently bought a savannah kitten. I hate it when she eats the cat’s wet food because she, as many of you know, has a beard and all of that nasty crap gets in it. Then she will come lick my face and it’s disgusting. I have a crate and always punish her when I see her eating it, but it doesn’t help.
I can’t stick with dry cat food because I have an 11 year old cat that was just found to have a hyper thyroid. She had ulcers on her tongue and it hurts her mouth to crunch on dry food.
I have tried everything, even putting the cat food on the counters, but then I caught my cat jumping on them when she was hungry! I also tried putting a gate where I keep their food, but then the cats wouldn’t jump over it.
I am soooo tired of cleaning her damn beard because she is defiant and won’t let me. I also bathe her once a week too, but it isn’t enough. (My vet recommended to bathe her this often.) Jimmy, my savannah is already a HUGE almost 5 month old kitten, so I cannot do what some people have suggested and cut a hole in something hollow that only he can fit into because she can fit in it too.
Please help me, she is in her crate right now because she ate the cat food I hid in the laundry room on top of the litter box!

We were told that she had accidents in the house, but these are ‘on purposes.’ She pees when she’s mad at us, even right in front of us after she’s been out, such as if there is no spot for her on the furniture or if her dinner is not when she’d like it to be. I don’t want to crate train her – is there any other way?

How Do I Get My Dog To Stop Humping?

Our dog is a small havanese dog. He is between the ages of 2-6, and if course, a male. We are sure that our dog does not think he is higher than the family members. My mother is the highest above of him, my grandma is next, and I am just a little over him. And my sister is down below. We are going to get his testes removed, I forgot the name of the surgery. We think it will make him calmer and he will lessen the humping. We have actually tried this stuff from a vet, we plugged it in and it’s supposed to release calming stuff into the air around the dog. Which then makes the dog stop barking and act calmer, in fact our dog stopped barking at sounds and stuff, but did not get any calmer! And a very serious problem now and before is that he is humping me, my sister, and her friends. It’s getting a little out of hand now, I do watch many dog training shows and research lots. I have taught my dog many tricks, by the way I’ve been yelling out a very sharp noise like. “AH!” or you know from the show “It’s me or the dog”. We only do that when he is doing something bad, but he just never listens when we do it when he’s humping.
Please answer this question, we are going to get him some surgery done on his testes, but we still need to find out some way if the surgery doesn’t work. Thanks!

How Can I Stop My Havanese Puppy From Howling So Much?

Hello! We just brought home a 12-week old Havanese puppy last Wednesday. He is absolutely wonderful and incredibly smart…he doesnt mind his crate and sleeps 6-7 hours through the night without an accident. He feels completely comfortable with us (my boyfriend and myself) and is probably TOO attached to me since I have been home with him every day since he has been here. The only problem is that when we leave him in his playpen, he HOWLS and whines SO much. We leave him in there about 10-15 mins at a time, with us in the house and we have left for about 20 minutes since we got him and left him in the pen and we get back and we HEAR him howling and barking from down the hall by the elevators! He came from a farm in Connecticut, to downtown NYC, so the sights and sounds are definitely a huge adjustment to him, but he has been really good with everything else except being left alone. Anyone have any ideas or helpful tips?? I go back to work on Jan 9th and am scared to leave him.

How Can I Stop My Dog From Being Aggressive To New People And Some Other Dogs?

I have a 1 year old male maltese. Yes he is neutered. At home w/me and my family he is the sweetest dog in the whole world. But when he meets new people, such as my friends, he just goes nuts! He won’t stop barking at them and sometimes he even bites atthey’rere ankles and feet! We have tried giving the new people treats to give to my dog so he will like them but sometimes he doesnt take the treats. Then i have no idea what to do! I need help please! Also, he barks and lunges at most dogs. They’re are only about 2 dogs that he likes and they are a little yorkie (male) and a little havanese (female). You would think that he doesnt have a problem with little dogs, only big dogs. But theyre is another maltese across the street who is a little smaller than my dog is and he lunges and barks at the other dog. And the other dog isnt even doing anything! Please I have no idea what to do. We tried taking him to training for 8 weeks once a week but that didnt do anything. It just taught him simple commands like sit and stay which he already knew. Please i need some help. Getting a personal trainer for him is out of the question because my parents don’t want to spend the money. I need to know how to train him on my own.

How Can I Stop My 5 Month Old Puppy’s Screaming When Put In Kennel At Bf’s House For Nighttime?

5 mo. house trained Havanese. It took about 2 mo. for her to not cry & learn to be kennel trained for sleeping at my house- she’s an angel there now.
When I go to my BFs, she LITERALLY SCREAMS when we put her in her kennel at night. I bring the same 1 she uses from home to BF’s place. I’m at his home 2 weekends/month for 1-2 nights. His bedroom is upstairs & we put her in the 1st fl. dining room. B/c we have allergies/asthma, she can’t sleep in our bed. I would also prefer that she/the kennel weren’t in the bedroom at night so we have1 safe-zone. Also, it doesn’t seem worth it since during the 1st wks I put her/ the kennel in my bedroom at night and she still cried, so I moved her to another room in the apt and ignored the cries (unless I thought something was wrong).
I think she might be a crier in general – if she’s not in the same room as me, she cries/screams but doesn’t destroy things-but not at night in kennel anymore.
Any suggestions? PLS HELP me make my pup&BF happy!

How Do I Get My 4 Year Old Havanese To Stop Barking At Every Dog He Sees?

My Havanese is 4 years old. I have had him since he was 3 months old. He is usually rather quiet in the house but when we go out on the street he barks at every dog he sees. He attended a begginer puppy course when he was little and we attented as well a private training course. We have tried everything from a muzzle, harness and even trying to distract him but nothing seems to work. Please help
