For pets the coat can be clipped short for easier care. If the coat is to be kept long it needs to be thoroughly brushed and combed at least twice a week. There is a lotion available to prevent the hair from splitting. Clip excess hair from between the pads of the feet. The feet themselves may be clipped to look round. Show dogs need a great deal more grooming. There is little to no shedding, so dead hair must be removed by brushing. Check the eyes and ears regularly. If the ears are not kept clean it is prone to get an ear infection. The beauty of a well groomed Havanese is that he still looks tousled and carefree. If you accustom your dog to nail clipping from puppy age, she should accept the routine as an adult. Teeth should be brushed weekly, and is also best started as a puppy.
My 12 Lb Havanese Ate Some Chicken Bones Tonight. What Should I Be Watching For? So Far She Seems Ok?

Well, with cooked chicken bones there is the concern of splintering which can cause choking. Fortunately she got them down alright. I would watch for vomiting, diarrhea, and any unusual behavior. Hopefully, she chewed them up well enough that there won’t be any problems digesting them. However, if she loses her appetite and starts acting ill call your vet right away.

How Should I Prepare For A New 16-month Old Havanese Dog Before We Bring Her Home?

You should have a crate to confine her when you’re not home – until you know she’s reliably house trained and not destructive. You’ll also need whatever food she’s being fed now, dishes, toys, collar and leash, treats, a bed, nail clippers, pin brush and slicker brush for grooming her. Other than that, just be ready to introduce her to your home and make her part of your life.
Need Help Picking Out A Puppy. What Kind Of Breed Should I Get?

I want a small breed, loveable, loyal companion, and good with kids, playful yet laidback, can be a good watch dog, but friendly with people. Easy to train. Non-shedding, don’t mind the grooming. I dislike, a lot of barking, no-running dog for me, non-aggressive, nippy type dog either that digs or jumps over fence. I’m considering a shih-tzu or mix with havanese or lhasa apso. Any owners that can tell me more?
