our family is getting a puppy. we’re going today to look at a havanese puppy at a breeder’s house. we want one that doesn’t shed.

What Breed Is Better? Havanese Or Maltese?

Ive heard that Havanese are better dogs than Maltese. Is this true? I read that Havanese have more colors to pick from and Maltese are just white. And that a Havanese would be better to compete. Or take on trips. But they both sound like great dogs and are both very pretty but do require grooming. I just want to know if the Havanese would be a better dog to own.

You’ll probably have the same experience with either dog…while no dog is hypoallergenic, there are breeds that many people feel they do better around, like poodles.
The best thing to do for allergies is to have the desensitizing shots & keep your home VERY clean, eliminate things in the home that can collect allergens (carpet, draperies, etc)…limit as much upholstery as possible. Wash all bedding, yours and your pets weekly in HOT water, and wash your pet with a pet shampoo formulated for people with allergies (like Allergroom) and use a humectant spray often (like Humilac). Keep the dog out of your bedroom, and definitely off your bed. These things can make living with a dog possible even for people with allergies. I am allergic to cats and dogs, and have 4 dogs and 1 cat…these things really help deal with the allergies!

Can be playful but still likes to lay in your lap or be petted
Is small
Easy to train
Good with children
and isn’t aggressive.
The fur is soft to touch
Both breeds hit all of standards and I also know that you can keep the Havanese in a puppy cut which is what I would like to do and I read that you can’t do that with a Coton. So which one?
