Questions About Havanese…?

We are considering adopting a small dog and are looking at a havanese. [we will be adopting an adult dog, no puppies]
I have some questions about this breed:
1. How good are they with other dogs? Do they play with them a lot?
2. Are they submissive, generally, or dominant?
3. Are they smart or not-so-smart? Do they take to obedience training well?
4. Do they mind roughhousing? for ex, will they be tolerant of small children / a energetic household/ A lot of hustle and bustle? Or are they more snappish?
5. MOST IMPORTANT : How are havanese off leash? do they have good recall? Will they stay by your side or will they run off?
If you have any suggestions of another dog breed, please tell me! Most important is that the dog does not run away off leash. We won’t be necessarily adopting a purebred [more likely a mutt] but we just want to know the general characteristics.
please do not copy and paste from a website. Tell me your personal experience. THANKS!

A good friend of mine has two havanese, and i can tell you that he swears by them, this is what I have noticed.
    1. good with other dogs depending on how and when they are introduced.
2.his female is submissive and his male is a little more dominant but not much.
3.they are both pretty smart and very obedient.
4.they love roughhousing and are extremely energetic. have never seen any snapping or nipping.
5.this really depends on training and the individual dog but i can tell you that both of his dogs will walk with him off lead very well.
I am sure you are aware of their hypoallergenic non shedding coat.
    good luck.

    I personally own a maltese.
She is great with other dogs and loves to play
She is generally inbetween. She is mostly submissive
She is intelligent, but small dogs aren’t always the greatest in obedience training because of their spoiled past.
Most small dogs are snappish, but if they are introduced slowly, they will be fine. Since you are adopting an adult dog, be VERY careful and make sure the dog has no bad past experiences.
Sadly, they should not be let off leash in a non enclosed area. All little dogs, when they see squirells, mice ect, they will run and chase after them.

Okay my neighbor has a Havanese. He’s adorable So I suppose I can answer your questions. I’m like a dog fanaticc=]
    1. My neighbor’s dog always runs into our yard and plays with our dogs, so I’d say yes, theyre GREAT with other dogs. He loves running around with them and playing.
2.I wouldn’t say their too dominant. They’re nice dogs.
    3. They are smart, I think every dog is in some ways.
    4. My neighbors have 3 kids and the dog is fine with them. The dog would be fine with a active family.
    5. Ummm for this question I’m not sure. When my neighbor’s dog gets off the leash, he runs around a lot and sometimes comes into my yard and they have troubles getting him back. But the dog comes running right over to me when he comes into my yard, and its easy to get him for me. Plus, he might only run away into my yard because he loves playing with MY dogs.
Here’s a useful website, However I did get all of my answers form experience.http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeds/hav…
For other dogs. Let’s see. Shetland Sheepdogs are GREAT dogs. They’re SO easy to train and they have the sweetest temperament. Golden Rretriever’s are also awesome and I love them a ton. They;re so loyal and they’re just great, but they do shed a lot. Umm let’s see. I don;t know there’s a LOT of rgeat dogs out there, and I’d be happpy to tell you about a lot of good breeds. EMail me any time.
    Byye. I hope i Helped!! =)
P.S. Male dogs are normally better pets than female dogs because they are a lot less territorial.
