I Have A 11 Week Old Havanese/shih Tzu And I Am Trying To Kennel Train Him, Am I Doing Anything Wrong?

I have had him for 8 days.
so i put him in there at night when we are sleeping, i wake up once through the night to take him out to go pee, and he has been doing ok with that for the last 2 nights.
in the morning (5:30am) i take him out first thing and he goes pee and i praise him.
i bring him down for a nap around 11am for 2 hours and that’s when the crazy barking happens, i give him a bone or something to chew on and he has a toy, he plays and pee’s b4 he goes in.
then i take hime out to go pee + praise and then around 6:00pm i put him back in for 1 hour, after lots of play and cuddles through the day.
then bedtime is usually around 10:30 and then we start all over again.
He barks alot during the day but only a little bit through the night. (he did bark lots through the night b4 but it’s gotten better)
I feed him three times a day and i make sure he has poo’d b4 i put him in the kennel. So am i doing everything ok? is it going to stop soon? will he ever be kennel trained?

Think of him like a small child – well, first of all sounds like you are doing everything very well – a small child who doesn’t go to sleep when laid down for a nap probably isn’t tired out enough. Go for a jog before nap time. Whatever you need to do to be sure he is tired enough. Maybe move nap time to a bit later of a time. Just get him super tired and he’ll sleep like a baby!
YES, You are doing great, and YES, it will end soon. He appears to be used to more exercise, changing his home and his routine is difficult for him and obviously for you. It would be much easier if you had him as a puppy and he learned your daily routine. My only suggestions are be patient and give him more exercise. When in the crate if he barks, use negative reinforcers: cover crate with blanket, make loud noise etc. Wait until he quites and remains quite before you take him out. If you take him out when he barks he thinks you are waiting for his cue. Keep up the good work, you are doing great.
It is best when trying to train a pup to confine it in either a paste board box or kennel cab.Take it out about every two to three hours, let it do its job and bring it directly back in,don’t allow it to play outside after doing its job,or it will get confused about why it is being put out.Don’t give any treats until he has done the job well, because if you reward him when he has made a mistake,he will also get confused. In a week or so,you pet will be trained to know and understand why you’re putting him out.
It sounds like you are doing great. Its good that you’re dedicated. It will take more than 8 days. Dogs are trained more by practice than anything. It sounds like he’s starting to get it, just keep up the routine.
