How Can I Get My Havanese Puppy To Sleep In His Crate – He Just Won’t Go In There?

We just got a 12 week havanese puppy – 1) he won’t even go near the crate – I’ve put treats in there and still won’t go near 2) He cries and barks all night long. Right now his room is the laundry room – that is where I have his crate. I put his toys in there as well as a treat. During the night he will cry/bark AND is destructive with the crate. He drags it by the soft blanket inside as if he hates the crate! Help!! I have heard crate training is the best – but I can’t even get him to feel comfortable in the crate.

put a treat in the cage when its bed time then when he goes in lock the door and he will eventually go to sleep( don’t worry he will get used to it).
Thats really tough. I would start by just picking him up and physically putting him in the crate for a minute, but don’t leave the room. And never let him out if he cries. That teaches him that if he cries long enough he will get his way. That is not what you want. Praise him through the crate and tell him everything is okay. Once he calms down let him out and praise him with kisses, petting, and treats. Increase the time he is in there each day, and eventually he should become used to the crate. Good luck with your puppy! Havanese are beautiful dogs!!
He wants to be near u. U need to put him in ur room, he can still be in the crate. When he whines u need to tell him to be quiet but dont yell at him. When he stops whining tell him he is good but if he starts again tell him no. He should be much better if he knows u r there with him. If this doesn’t work then try putting his food and water in the crate so he has to get used to going in and out. Keep toys and treats in the crate. Hope this helps!
ok well i have a hava too and he hated the crate for the first couple of months but i dont make him sleep in it. DONT FORCE HIM TO GO IN. put treats in it or maby a peice of hamburger and just leave it there don watch and he may go in if he even puts his head in then give him a treat i think that havas all have separation anexiety now mine hangs out in his crate and sleeps in it during the day and he patrols the house at night
Pick him up and put him in his crate,he has to get used to it,
make sure he has done his potty either outside or on training pads, leave him in there, close it
when he wakes take him out let him do his business and let him play, when he kinda looks a little pooped, put him back in
you have to train him to like it,once you keep this up,by 4 month he should be going init on his own
Good Luck and Congrats
Maybe you could try to put him in a pin in the livingroom, that might make him More comfortable. http://www.dogkennels.com/dog-kennels/do…
