Does A Havanese Dog Shed Their Fur When They Are In Heat?

We are about to get our Havanes dog. She is 14 months ago and no longer able to participate in dog shows because of her fur. The breeder said that she has “blown” her fur because she is was just in heat. What does this mean? Am I using the correct terminology?

Yes, you are using the right terms. . All females will blow their coats when in heat..and it makes females hard to show. Spaying fixes the problem of the coat shedding so much. When a Havanese sheds, it makes a big matting problem, as the hair doesn’t fall free, but clings to the other hair and mats.
I sure wish there was category in dog shows for altered dogs, male and female! Cats have that category in shows, and allows people to participate in the sport, without having to be a breeder and mess with all the problems of unwanted pregnancies, etc..
I know dog shows are to encourage good breeding practices, but showing altered affspring is still a great way to promote a bloodline, etc..

“blown her coat” means she has shedded out,… seasonal shedding, giving birth, high stress – are all reasons that a dog could “blow his coat” not to worry,,, it comes back..
