Do All Dogs Have That “doggie” Smell? Thinking Of Getting A Shitzhu Or A Havanese. Do They Have A Big Smell?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
All dogs pretty much smell the same especially if they get wet (personally, I love that smell) but you have to bathe them often if you don’t like it. Some dogs can’t be bathed too often because then you get skin problems.

Some dogs have less of a doggie smell than others, including Shih Tzus and Poodles for example. It also depends on the individual dog and the dog’s diet too, though.
I have a shi-poo which is a shitzu poodle and she smells good unless she gets in the rain
Although all dogs will smell if theyre not properly bathed
My great dane does not smell like dog at all. He gets no more than 1 bath a month, sometimes less.
I know Dogos don’t have that dog smell either.
Usually, the longer the fur, the more ‘doggy’ smell there is.
If you keep her brushed out and well groomed, then no, not usually, but I wouldn’t recommend feeding her any type of wet food (canned food, etc.) because it will get stuck in the hair around their mouth and that will def. start to smell bad and it’s also not good for their teeth.
They all have but if you give a bath say about every 3rd day then the smell is almost gone. But use shampoo that has some nice smell.
I will have to say that my dad ans step-mom have 2 shitzhus and they do tend to have the smelly dog issue sometimes. My sister on the other hand has a havanese and I have never smelled anything of that doggie smell. Also the havanese is Super smart by far. Very easy to teach stuff to. But the best part of these two dogs are that they DO NOT shed!!!! lol. I hope this helps you out some I come a family of dog lovers, being a owner of 2 min. daschunds and a over sized lab. These dogs you are thinking about are very loyal and get very attached to the owner.
Good luck and happy shopping!!!
Only when you haven’t bathed them for a couple weeks.
