Filed under Care & Training Q&As

*How much grooming is needeed?
*Are they intellingent?
*How much do they cost?
*How high is the energy level and exercise needs?
*What questions should I ask a breeder before I purchase?
*How playful and affectionate are they?
*Would you reccomend them to me if I have a regular sized house and yard, no kids under eight, a person at home all day or most of the time, and that I travel
a lot in planes (to China) and want to take it?
*Do they bark our bite a lot?
You don’t have to answer all of them, I was just thinking about getting one. Thanks!!

  1. I luv Pets says:

Havanese are from Cuba, Also known as Havana Silk dogs and Bichon Havanais they are very simular in size and coat of a Maltese but not as silkie. They require regular every day brushing and occastional clipping to prevent mats. They are very intelligent and loyal breed. They are more expensive that a common bred since they are considered a rare breed of dog they are relatively new to the United States, but prices vary between show dogs and pet quality. Ask your breeder the regular questions that you would ask any breeder. See the parents, see there temperment, ask for refrences, ask for health records, the name and number of the vet. Always call you local shelters and animal control see if the breeder had complaints on them before. Ask for other people who have bought from them phone numbers. If they are good breeders they will appreciate your caution and deem you a good buyer and will comply with all your demands. Especially if your about to pay anywhere from 500$ to 1500$ for one of these dogs. They are extremely affectionate and loyal they need lots of socialization with all family members so they dont take to one particulary person. Yes they are small sized not large at all. All dogs need walks no matter if you have a fenced yard. They would be great for your type of house and lifestyle. They are the right size for travelling but traveling is super stressful for a dog, especially if you go overseas with all the quarentine laws you are better off leaving the dog with a sitter for your dogs sake. Also Havanese are I believe a little to large to be a carry on dog. I think they have to be under a certian weight and time limit. If the flight is more that a few hours they have to be crated. They are not nippy if well socialized and trained properly, and they bark as regualar as any dog would.
