The best way to train any puppy is through crate training. I had my Rhodesian Ridgeback trained in 2 days!!! You will need a kennel or airline crate. This will also act as their little personaly space. Just acclimate them to it with treats. Let them see it, sniff it and play in it. When they get close to it, give them a treat. When they go in it, give them a treat. You get the idea. Now that they are acclimated to the crate, start to leave them in it for a few mintues each time a few times a day.
Now to start the house training. Have them sleep in the kennel, not the bed, not the couch. Right in the morning, take them out of the kennel and put them outside. Let them do their buisness and get real excited adn reward them (you can also start clicker training too if desired). If they dont go, put them back in the kennel and try agian in 30 minutes or less. Once they go, you can keep them out of the kennel or crate. Everytime you put them in the kennel, it should work this way. Just take them straight outside every time it is time to come out of the kennel.
For during the day when you are home, Just simply take the pooch out ever couple hours. Clicker training works great here and you can start that as soon as you bring them home. If you want to know more about that just ask. It is a great way to go!!! As long as you dont give your dog a chance to go to the bathroom inside, they wont know what they are missing!!
Congrats!! I have had a Havanese for 6 years-he is wonderful!!
I found him relatively easy to house train buy just taking him out OFTEN!! First thing in the a.m., after eating, playing and napping. I watched him closely in the house, every time he started sniffing around, out we went.
Take her to the same area every time you go out, wherever you want her “bathroom” to be, and tell her what you want her to do every time. I can tell my Spencer to hurry and go peepee and he tries to go-even if he doesn’t have to-he tries.
This is very convenient if you are taking her in the car.According to my vet these small dogs are pron to forgetting all their training in adolecence, and may have a few accidents around the 3-4 month time frame. This quickly passes.
They are smart dogs and so much fun I know you will love her!!!
my little cousin has 1 about 3 months now he was 6 weeks when they got him repitition is the best way
we just got a puppy wiredhair terrier/dashhound and let me tell you its tough good luck.
