it just depends on your location i suggest looking in a phone book for your local pet stores and shelters and either calling or going to visit if you can’t find any there look in the classifieds because you can find reliable breeders in your area under the pet section and if you still can’t find one look on the internet but be careful because a lot of “breeders” have been scamming people lately. best of luck!
First of all, never buy from a pet store. These dogs are poorly bred and often come from puppy mills. You will be overcharged and the dog is likely to have health problems in the long run.
Start by looking in local shelters or try petfinder.com.
You can also search online for breeders in your area and go visit with breeders to learn more. Take your time and find a reputable breeder.
Research as much as you can about the breed on your own also.
I would not buy any breed of dog at a pet store. Pet store puppies come from puppy mills.
You can try a shelter or rescue http://www.petfinder.com there are 39 havanese listed in petfinder right now that need homes.
You may want to research reputable breeders. Look for someone who shows their dogs. The breeder should also be testing their breeding stock for genetic health issues, using OFA, CERF and Optigen.
i would look to ADOPT a dog, not BUY a dog. do some research before you get one, but start looking for places that may have them, like maybe a rescue, breeder, or the humane society. by research, i mean make sure their energy level fits your lifestyle, find medical problems that tend to come with the breed, find a GOOD vet and the nearest emergency vet, just in case, stuff like that. i agree with what people have said above about puppy mills and dogs at petstores. also, some dogs at petstores will get very bad “habits,” like separation anxiety (sp?), fear of people, aggression toward other dogs or children, etc. dogs from puppy mills are sometimes taken away from their mother too early, are not used to humans touching them, etc. these cause problems like what i stated above. also, a good rescue or breeder can tell you about each individual dog’s personality, adult size (if puppy), medical needs, etc.
Stay far far away from those nasty pet stores. If there is a pet store selling purebred pups or “doodles” or “poos” you can be certain that they came from a puppy mill.
Look up the national breed club and they will be able to direct you to the rescue or reputable breeders.
