ALL dogs require the same basic care & training.
Havanese require LOTZA grooming, like any other long-coated beast.
Havanese, like other small dogs are long lived. You can expect them to live 12-15 year easily. Well bred Havanese generally do not have too many health problems.
Be sure that at a minimum, the breeder has done the following health tests on both parents, with good results: hips, patellas, BAER (hearing) and CERF (eyes – must be done annually).
They are very smart dogs and eager to please. This makes training them lots of fun. They are also clowns, who will keep trying things in an attempt to figure out what you really want them to do. Once they figure it out, they tend to remember it.
I have had my girl for about three and a half months now. I have not done NEARLY the amount of formal training done on any of my labs or my sheltie. She is SMART! within one 15-30 min session she learns WHATEVER it is I have taught her. My breeder came by today and I was mentioning how she doesn’t have any manners yet, but she comes, she leaves it, she gets down and most of all she LOVES me! She has changed my life!! Seriously!! I suffer from Anxiety and depression and her love and companionship has tremendously changed my life!
